Leeds families have booked more than 12,000 tickets for city attractions since the start of July, with Roundhay Park and the City Museum leading the surge ahead of school holidays that begin on 20 July.
School terms end next week across Leeds, prompting parents to line up day trips that keep children occupied without long travel. The timing coincides with warm weather forecasts and a push from Visit Leeds to promote nearby options over distant holidays.
Roundhay Park on Prince's Avenue remains a top choice, with its 700 acres including playgrounds, boating lake and Tropical World where entry costs £8.50 for adults and £5.80 for children aged three to 15. Families also head to Kirkstall Abbey off Abbey Road, where free entry to the ruins pairs with a nearby playground and regular weekend craft sessions run by Leeds Museums and Galleries.
These sites recorded combined visits exceeding 450,000 last summer, according to council figures released in May. Both locations stay open daily from 10am, with parking at Roundhay limited to two hours on peak days.
The Leeds City Museum on Millennium Square runs a dinosaur trail through July and August that includes hands-on fossil digs for £3 per child. The museum stays open until 5pm most weekdays and offers free entry to the main galleries.
Practical steps include checking the Leeds City Council website for updated opening times and reserving Tropical World slots online to avoid queues at the door. Advance booking for the City Museum trail opens each Monday for the following week.
